2010 in review: top songs (1 - 10)

"There's love, there's hope for us and there's beauty in the world."

Here they are, my friends!

My top 10 songs of 2010.

I played them on repeat, sang them in the shower, and danced to them non-stop.

And still I'm not sick of 'em!

Each of these songs reminds me of a particular event, person or moment in time of significance in 2010.

And as they inevitably continue to populate my iPod playlists, they'll still remind me of the great year that's now gone by.

Shake your booties boys and girls for the beauty in the world.

Happy 2011!

1. Beauty in the World, Macy Gray
A simple catchy song with a lovely message, Beauty in the World became my anthem for 2010 and beyond.

2. Love the Way You Lie, Eminem f/ Rihanna
"Oh my god, I simply cannot get enough of Eminem and Rihanna's new single Love The Way You Lie. Seriously though, is it not the most brilliant collab? Of course we need Eminem and Rihanna singing together about an abusive relationship."

3. Dog Days Are Over, Florence + the Machine
Yes, I discovered this song with the rest of the latecomers, when it was featured in the trailer for Eat Pray Love, but it was Flo's performance at the VMAs that really blew me away. The dog days may be over, but this is just the beginning for Florence Welch.

4. Dynamite, Taio Cruz
Dynamite proved to be the best way to start a dance party! At a wedding, at a housewarming party, on an average Tuesday night. Throw your hands up in the air, and it's on!

5. Raise Your Glass, Pink
The song's a balls-out anthem for underdogs and freaks, and has a sense of humour about itself. I just love love love it!

6. Whataya Want From Me, Adam Lambert
I didn't quite realize I was an Adam Lambert fan until we made eye contact for a split second at the VMAs. After that, I gave Glambert a chance and realized Whataya Want From Me is a really catchy song!

7. Bad Romance, Lady Gaga
She may have released Telephone and Alejandro in 2010, but I'm still hooked on Bad Romance.

8. Carry Out, Timbaland f/ Justin Timberlake
Justin Timberlake still refuses to release his own full-length, but at least he collaborates on some stellar tracks like this one. Also, my favourite lyric of the year may be "Is it full of myself to want you full of me?"

9. Waka Waka, Shakira
"After watching the video a couple times we were compelled to get off the couch and learn the dance ourselves. And let me tell you, we are great at it! It only took two attempts for us to perfect it. No big deal, but y'know, pretty big deal."

10. Fuck You, Cee Lo Green
This is hands down the best song to sing in the shower. I also love that my dear friend Linda played it at her wedding reception in October.

2010 in review: Toy Story 3

Toy Story 3 is the best movie I've ever seen.

I saw it in the theatre in the summer, and watched it again on DVD with my parents this week. And still, I can't rave enough about it.

The movie takes place as 17-year-old Andy is preparing to go off to college, leaving all his beloved toys except Woody behind in the attic. After a series of unfortunate events leaves the toys feeling shafted, they end up in a local daycare, which initially excites them as they will be played with again!

But when they discover the corruption of Lotso Hugging Bear, the leader of the toys in the daycare, Woody must help Buzz, Slinky, Potato Head and the rest of the gang make their escape.

This movie has everything you could ever ask for: comedy, action, drama, suspense. In the theatre I gasped out loud multiple times, and even watching it again at home I found myself exclaiming "Oh no!" during the suspenseful bits.

The characters are every bit as animated, lovable, hilarious and flawed as in the first two installments, and are of course the strength of the movie. You feel for them and want Andy to care about them as he once did, and you certainly don't want to see them suffer at the hands of the careless daycare children.

The animation itself is impeccable, and I am constantly impressed at Pixar's attention to detail, which makes you forget you're watching an animated movie despite the incredible happenings onscreen.

But more so than previous installments, I found Toy Story 3 carried throughout an emotional message about growing older and feelings of abandonment. As Andy grows up, the toys question whether they should stay loyal to their friend or seek love from other children.

It was enough to make me to dig my teddy bear Domino out of my closet and give him a place of prominence back on my bed.

Constant rotation: December 2010

Santa's gonna come and make him mine this Christmas!

1. Raise Your Glass, Pink
2. Fuckin' Perfect, Pink
3. All I Want for Christmas Is You, Mariah Carey
4. What's My Name, Rihanna f/ Drake
5. Call Your Girlfriend, Robyn
6. Whataya Want From Me, Pink
7. O Holy Night, Sheryl Crowe
8. Grown Up Christmas List, Kelly Clarkson
9. Oh Santa!, Mariah Carey
10. I Just Had Sex, Lonely Island f/ Akon
11. Dancing On My Own, Robyn

2010 in review: top songs (11 - 20)

The soundtrack of my life is filled with pop hooks, dance beats, songs from Broadway and the occasional hip hop or rock track for good measure.

Here's part one of my top 20 tracks I listened to on repeat over 2010.

(Obviously personal favourites, and not necessary released in 2010).

11. Naked Eye, Kelly Clarkson
A leaked track that may or may not appear on Kelly's new CD expected in 2011. If this is what the whole album is going to sound like it can't be released soon enough. So deliciously poppy as Kelly does so well.

12. Lisztomania, Phoenix
This song was definitely released in 2009, but I listened to it a heck of a lot in 2010.

13. Defying Gravity, Original Broadway Cast of Wicked
Hoooow had it taken me so long to see Wicked?! In 2010, I finally saw the musical masterpiece, and adopted Defying Gravity as a new anthem.

14. I Believe, Nikki Yanofsky
I still get emotional thinking of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics tributes set to this song. Also, I couldn't/refused to stop singing it all around Toronto after Canada's men's hockey team took home the gold.

15. OMG, Usher
Between OMG and DJ Got Us Falling in Love, Usher sure got me moving in 2010.

16. Your Love Is My Drug, Ke$ha
You know I don't particularly support anyone who replaces the S in their name with a dollar sign. But unfortunately, as much as I try to resist, Ke$ha's songs are undeniably catchy. God dammit.

17. Bulletproof, La Roux
I kind of feel like this song has been out forever, but I definitely have memories of 2010 dance parties set to it.

18. Tightrope, Janelle Monae
"Off her most recent album the Archandroid, it's part pop, part funk, part soul, part rock, and all catchy. I now realize how silly I was to not jump on Janelle Monae bandwagon earlier."

19. Empire State of Mind, Jay-Z f/ Alicia Keys
In addition to conjuring up memories of our famed 2009 trip to NYC, Empire State of Mind is just an awesome track. Also, when Vanessa and I went to Chicago in September, we couldn't think of any songs about the windy city, so sang this Jay-Z track throughout instead.

20. United State of Pop 2009, DJ Earworm
Is it wrong to list a mashup of 2009's top songs as one of my favourite tracks of 2010? If so, I don't want to be right.

On the cover: Natalie Portman, James Franco for Entertainment Weekly

Natalie Portman and James Franco get Oscar-ready on their own covers of Entertainment Weekly.

Portman's expecting to get an acting nomination for her role in Black Swan, while Franco is set to host the show and be nominated for 127 Hours.

“There were some nights that I thought I literally was going to die,” Portman says of her Black Swan role. “It was the first time I understood how you could get so wrapped up in a role that it could sort of take you down.”

Portman has had quite the holiday season -- the 29-year-old actress just announced that she's pregnant and engaged to marry Black Swan choreographer Benjamin Millepied.

An Oscar nod come January 25 will be yet another delightful milestone for her!

In the meantime, these Entertainment Weekly covers are pretty cute.

2010 in review: top TV

As much as I love TV, it pains me to say that as we prepare to ring in 2011, I count only two series as appointment television: Gossip Girl and Brothers & Sisters.

The former has improved drastically since last season, while the latter has taken a complete nosedive, abandoning any storylines that had momentum.

I did just buy my parents the first season of Modern Family on DVD, which we're collectively killing by watching six episodes at a time.

But truth is, these days I spend more time watching Golden Girls and Friends reruns than first-run TV.

There were a few bright spots on the TV dial, however.

1. Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics
I can honestly say I've never taken such an interest in the Winter Olympics as I did this past year. From David Pelletier's stellar figure skating commentary to Clara Hughes' emotional victory speech and the men's hockey team's battle to the finish, for a few weeks I watched Olympics every chance I got.

2. Gabourey Sidibe: talk show guest
2010 was Gabourey Sidibe's year! Not only was she nominated for an Oscar for her breakthrough role in Precious, but she also proved to be one of the most delighful talk show guests on the circuit! If this whole acting thing doesn't work out, talk show personality may be her calling.

3. 2010 Emmys: Cold open and Modern Family pretape
Who knew that something Jimmy Fallon was involved with could actually be funny?! The Late Night host took reigns of the Emmys, and opened them in fine form with an all-star musical performance featuring Tina Fey, Jon Hamm and the cast of Glee. Later, a taped bit about how to improve Outstanding Comedy winner Modern Family brought the laughs, with the help of George Clooney.

4. Kent Boyd and Billy Bell on SYTYCD!
Format changes and multiple contestant injuries made for a tumultuous So You Think You Can Dance season. While the all-star format didn't completely work, Kent Boyd's goofy charisma and Billy Bell's impeccable dancing talent were more than enough reason to tune in. (Season three's Neil Haskell as an all-star was also amazing).

5. Daily Degrassi
"I must say the four-days-a-week format the series tried out this summer totally worked for me. Seriously, it got me back interested in this show, after I had quit watching years ago. Probably didn't hurt that there were two queer storylines, with the show's first trans character, and Riley the football star finally, finally, finally FINALLY coming out."

6. Yes, I have seen Chelsea Lately
More popular than ever, Chelsea Handler didn't hold back in her celebrity interviews over the past year. My personal faves include flirting with her then-hookup buddy Dave Salmoni, gossiping with Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir, and talking pregnancy with my rock goddess Alanis Morissette.

2010 in review: Guest blogs

Some of the best times I had reading my blog this year was when others stepped up and took the reigns to contribute their own take on celebrity and pop culture.

During my two-week trip to Europe, Jackie and Vanessa really helped fill the void, while others contributed posts throughout the year.

Together we started a substantial relationship rumour about Kelly Cutrone and Jian Ghomeshi, embraced the Backstreet Boys back into our lives, and questioned what kind of itch Blair Waldorf was dealing with.

I literally LOL'd reading this year's guest blogs -- y'all are so funny!

Click inside to remember some of the best, and thanks to everyone who contributed!

1. Are Kelly Cutrone and Jian Ghomeshi doing it?
by Jackie
"When Kelly Cutrone came to Toronto to promote her book If You Have To Cry, Go Outside in March, she was interviewed by Jian Ghomeshi on CBC Radio's Q and I thought there was some chemistry. Because I have nothing better to do with my time, I've compiled a list of Kelly's tweets and some photo evidence for your consideration."

2. Hot and bothered. Literally.
by Vanessa

"Leighton Meester takes front and centre in the ad, looking hot as usual... and according to the caption underneath, she's also bothered. The *itch is back? I get what they're trying to say, but let's be honest, it looks like an ad for some yeast infection product. How unfortunate."

3. BSB quit playin' games, work nostalgia angle on tour
by Laura Drake

"Apparently, the Backstreet Boys continued making music after 2001. I don't know if you knew this -- I'm not sure I did -- but it was a mistake. Any mid-to-late 90's hit had 5,000+ screaming fans almost drowning out the band, but whenever they tried to slip into a post Black and Blue song, there were 10,000 crossed arms with associated confused looks."

4. Rent comes to Toronto with extra ammunition
by Renee

"Cheering (wooing) in between songs and dancing in your seat is acceptable to a point but cheering mid-song is just wrong. People forgot that they were at a play and not a concert. For instance, the women/girls in front of us were the most annoying people I have encountered at a play."

5. Darran's Big Brother 12 posts
by Darran

"The first showmance of the season came to the forefront this past week in the BB hot tub, as Rachel got turned on by swim coach Brandon's big, throbbing science-centric brain. Swapping professional associations and oggiling over Scientific American and Physicists Today –surely makes these two one of the nerdiest showmances in 12 seasons. Congrats."

6. Janice Wong says: go to Wavelength 500!
by Janice Wong

"Rolly Pemberton proceeded to blow us away with his smooth rhymes and repeated shouts that we better not "bite [his] shit!" Katie and I were hooked, immediately, and going to Sneakys around 11 every Sunday night for Wavelengths became routine. It became habit to start collecting a pile of change throughout the week to save for Sunday night."

2010 in review: Sightings!

Recognize any of the people in the above collage?

If not, you should be ashamed of yourself because someone did!

I didn't realize how many truly exciting celebrity sightings y'all had sent me over the past year, until I hit up my archive and checked.

From a food court encounter with a Canadian comedian, to an almost-sighting of a Twilight star you really impressed me with your eagle eyes and super-sleuthing talents.

Here's eight of the year's best celebrity encounters on outisthrough.com!

1. Gerry Dee in Toronto
spotted by Neil

"He ended up buying some food from Jimmy the Greek immediately after me. Once we finished our meal I finally gathered up enough confidence to approach him and ask if he had taken part in any commercials. He then replied 'Yes I have!', which then my response was 'Nice! I like them, I think they're funny!' and as I ran away he quickly replied 'Thanks a lot buddy!'

2. Kristen Stewart in Montreal
almost spotted by Janice Wong and Jackie

"Janice Wong elaborates via text message: 'KRISTEN STEWART WAS IN MY BUILDING! MY CO WORKERS SHARED AN ELEVATOR WITH HER. i was going to run out looking for her but she left in a van. omg.'"

And don't miss Jackie and Janice's followup investigation to uncover what Kristen Stewart was doing in their building!

3. The back of Minnie Driver's head in Toronto
spotted by Vijaya

"Thanks to Vijaya for sending in this great photo of the back of Minnie Driver's head as she exited the Intercontinental Hotel on Bloor St. in Toronto earlier this week. Driver was in town for the TIFF premiere of her film Conviction on Monday."

4. Ryan Reynolds, Sarah Silverman and MIGUEL in Toronto
spotted by me and Jackie

"Jackie and I made our now-annual pilgrimage to the InStyle Magazine-Hollywood Foreign Press TIFF party last night. Ryan Reynolds was an arms-length away. We could've touched him. Instead I muttered 'You are . . . gorgeous.'"

5. Drake in Toronto
spotted by Kim

"Kim texted me last night to let me know she spotted Drake and entourage roll into Italian restaurant Sotto Sotto in Toronto's Yorkville Saturday night. 'I'm not sure I would've recognized him if the host hadn't told me who he was!' Kim says."

6. Merle Dandridge in Toronto
spotted by me and Renee

"Merle Dandridge played Joanne in the touring production of Rent, and Renee and I think she's so great that we made a Facebook group dedicated to her. She was coincidentally the first one out to sign autographs and take photos. Dream come true!!!"

7. Scott Speedman in Montreal
spotted by Janice Wong

"He looked like any regular guy . . . wearing cheap Panasonic headphones," she tells me. "But I gave a goofy look of recognition as we passed."

8. Nigel Barker in New York City
spotted by Jasmin

"I thought that it was weird a man in his late 30s/early 40s would be flicking through the pages of Seventeen. I looked a little closer and I'm fairly certain that man was Nigel Barker, you know the judge from ANTM and the guy who shoots the photos for the Seventeen cover shoot the winners of ANTM get as part of their package of prizes. He was wearing running shorts cause I guess he was running."

2010 in review: On the cover

Abs were flaunted, blood was splattered, gowns were modeled and fierce poses were stricken to be featured in my "On the cover" feature over the past year.

These are the ten magazine covers that were so eye-grabbing I almost even purchased print copies.

1. True Blood cast for Rolling Stone
"Holy mother of fuck. True Blood stars Alexander Skarsgard, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer take it aaaaalll off for the cover of Rolling Stone's September 2, 2010 issue. They also appear to have splish-splashed in some blood before the shoot."

2. Anne Hathaway for Vogue
"Howard Jamieson soured me against Hathaway long ago, with her distaste for the actress. But there's no denying Hathaway looks gorgeous on this cover. She actually reminds me of Belle from Beauty and the Beast (and I love love love that movie)."

3. Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling for W
"The actors look their beautiful selves as usual, but I do have one bone to pick. If Ryan Gosling was pushing his lips up against your cheek, would you not look a little more interested than Ms. Williams does?"

4. Cheyenne Jackson for Out
"Holy lord. I want to go to there. 30 Rock star Cheyenne Jackson is posing like nobody's business for the November 2010 issue of Out Magazine."

5. Tina Fey for Esquire
"Though the 39-year-old funny woman looks hot hot hot handcuffed to a cop on the cover, she says she wasn't completely sold on the wild night out setup for the shoot. 'I got an e-mail [from Esquire] with a list of the potential setups, and my e-mail back was like, Well, I need to decline being handcuffed to a bed. I won’t straddle anyone. I won’t make out with a cop,' she says."

6. Matthew Morrison for Details
"Norman Jean Roy photographed the actor in Malibu, back in September. Plans to shoot a humorous cover were scrapped once the creative team at Details discovered what Morrison looked like sans shirt."

7. Ryan Gosling for Interview
"Ryan Gosling gives a great interview in the November 2010 issue of Interview Magazine. (Not to mention the 29-year-old actor looks so damn hot in the accompanying photo shoot)."

8. Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway for Entertainment Weekly
"God damn, what I wouldn't give to be Anne Hathaway on the cover of this week's Entertainment Weekly. Getting cuddled by naked Jake Gyllenhaal and shit."

9. Lady Gaga for Vanity Fair
"Gaga tells the mag she tries not to have too much sex, for fear it will sap her creative energy. 'I have this weird thing that if I sleep with someone they’re going to take my creativity from me through my vagina,' she says. So. Yeah . . ."

10. Rob Lowe for Men's Fitness
"The former Brothers & Sisters and current Parks & Recreation star shot the cover back in May, at which point he tweeted 'Shooting cover of Men's Fitness today in Malibu for the Oct. issue. Gonna be great; I've borrowed Hugh Jackman's abs.'"

2010 in review: The look

As always, life was a runway for the biggest stars hitting red carpets in Hollywood, New York and beyond in 2010.

The greatest head-turners had a little fun with their looks, and their comfort in their ensembles showed.

Click inside to ch-check out my best dressed from the Oscars, Golden Globes, Emmys, Grammys and more.

We're talking designs by Jason Wu, Carolina Herrarra, Christian Sirano, Roberto Cavalli, and Armani.

We've also got a star in a thrift-store find, and another in an ensemble that Jackie commented is "batshit f'ing insane."

Which look's your favourite?

1. Emma Watson in Rafael Lopez
at the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 London Premiere
"The 20-year-old actress donned a black lace and feather-skirted Rafael Lopez minidress that proved Hermione Granger's all grown up."

2. Michelle Williams in Jason Wu
at the Venice Film Festival premiere of Meek's Cutoff

"Williams wore a dove grey silk chiffon Jason Wu Resort 2011 gown, paired with a black Cecilia clutch. The neckline, three-quarter sleeves and silhouette of the dress give it a retro feel, and I'm loving the bow that tops it off.

3. Christina Hendricks in Christian Sirano
at the Golden Globe Awards

"Some said Mad Men's Christina Hendricks was a little too busty in her champagne-coloured Christian Siriano gown. But I say it shows off all the right curves. The ruffles provide interest without distracting."

4. Dianna Agron in Carolina Herrarra
at the Emmy Awards

"Glee's Dianna Agron is so naturally beautiful, I love that she never tries to overdo her hair, makeup or gown. Here she works a layered lace Carolina Herrera dress and simply elegant updo."

5. Rachel Bilson in Roberto Cavalli
at Roberto Cavalli's 40th anniversary party

"Rachel Bilson worked leopard print like I didn't know it could be worked. The petite actress showed she has curves in the slinky dress from Cavalli's pre-fall 2010 collection."

6. Drew Barrymore in vintage
at the Nylon + Express Denim Issues Party

"The 35-year-old Going the Distance star wore a metallic-printed 3/4-sleeve shift dress from a thrift store, which she paired with $760 Yves Saint Laurent Tribute pumps. Naturally."

7. Pink in Tony Ward Haute Couture
at the Grammy Awards

"The Glitter In The Air singer donned a colour-blocked Tony Ward Haute Couture gown. Any mermaid-like resemblances were intentional, a tip of the hat to her splish-splashing performance later in the evening."

8. Carey Mulligan in Prada
at the Academy Awards

"The An Education star wore a strapless black Prada gown, embellished with Swarovski crystals, as well as miniature corkscrews, watch gears, scissors, forks and knives (no joke)."

9. Claire Danes in Armani Prive
at the Emmy Awards

"Gorgeous. Flawless. Absolutely beautiful. An Emmy winner for her role in Temple Grandin, Claire Danes shone in a glittery, sequined and crystal-embellished Armani Prive gown to match those sunny blonde locks of hers."

10. Leighton Meester in Marchesa
at the Harry Winston Court Of Jewels Recreation Launch

"The Gossip Girl star wore a black lace jumpsuit by Marchesa that was daringly revealing. Call me crazy, but I actually like this look. She looks kind of like something that walked out of an erotic Tim Burton movie."

Alanis Morissette's a mom!

Alanis Morissette received perhaps the best gift she could ask for on Christmas day: the birth of her son!

"Alanis Morissette and Mario 'Souleye' Treadway welcomed a baby boy, Ever Imre Morissette-Treadway, on Dec. 25th," says a rep for the new mom. "All are healthy and happy."

Congratulations to the happy parents, who married earlier this year.

And thank you for choosing a name that is unique, without being a fruit or other inanimate object.

Q&A: Jessi Cruickshank talks Real Hollywood Survival Guide

She may have left MTV Canada earlier this year for a new project in L.A., but Jessi Cruickshank assures me she hasn't taken to the Hollywood antics she poked fun of as host of the After Show.

“I wish I could hop in daddy’s Beemer every morning and just go for coffee with my friends and make a living clubbing, but that whole lifestyle is something I don’t think I will ever experience," she says. "I’m still trying to get in a meagre catfight with someone in a bar though. I think that would be good press for me.”

Her signature sense of humour in fine form, Cruickshank returns to MTV Canada today with a three-part series of specials documenting the surreal Hollywood life around her.

I spoke with Jessi last week to get the scoop on her Real Hollywood Survival Guide, and took the opportunity to do some quality celeb gossiping with someone I knew would share my enthusiasm for it.

I’m super excited about your new specials coming up, but before we get to that I wanted to get your take on one of the biggest news stories of the year. And that is that Zac Efron is now single. Now this was a huge event in my life, so I’m wondering where you were when you heard the news, and what your reaction was.

I’m so glad that you asked this question, Chris. Because I feel like it’s key as a journalist to create your own biggest news stories of the year. And this is also, for me, the biggest. I was in my bedroom at the time, there were a few candles lit. I saw something on my computer screen and I just – you know – it was a really happy moment for me. I want to say blissful. I felt a sense of elation that I haven’t felt all year at that moment. And everywhere I go now I’m just on the lookout. I’m on the hunt for him. Trying to track him down.

I knew you’d understand how I feel.

I’m already planning to hit up some Lakers games. And even though I’ll be up in the rafters, I’m going to try to make it down to the front row and work my magic.

I’m so glad you’re in L.A. to pursue this. Aside from that distraction, how has the transition from Canada to L.A. been?

There is significant culture shock and it’s hard to sort of pinpoint all of the different things. Culturally, it’s just like, working in entertainment, in what I do, it’s not unique. Everybody does it and everybody has a show that they want to pitch, everybody has a screenplay and everybody knows Brad Pitt through several people. You know, it’s just like this bizarre culture of celebrity and everyone secretly or overtly wants to be famous. And it’s this strange thing that I have sort of embraced because I find it to be so interesting and hilarious, but at the same time it’s something you really have to try to avoid in order to sort of stay sane and grounded and like a regular human being.

And so this is what you’re exploring through your series of specials, correct?

Yes, exploring is a nice way to put it. I like that. I almost want to say exploiting. It’s tough because I made fun of L.A. for four years on the After Show, so I wanted to sort of show L.A. for what it really is, and kind of crank that up a notch. So in the special I try to adopt a trendy religion -- Michael Lohan introduced me to god while I was here. I try to get photographed by the paparazzi with Jayde Nicole. I go to rehab with Dr. Drew. It’s all sort of very tongue in cheek, and hopefully people will get that and don’t think I’ve become a horrible person.

Can you tell me a little bit about your encounter with Michael Lohan?

Yes! We were at a mall shooting something completely different, and I was like uh, is that Michael Lohan? And obviously because I will do anything, I run over to Michael Lohan who’s just in the mall with his very young, lovely 20-something-year-old girlfriend. And he was – shockingly! – more than happy to do an interview in the mall food court right then and there. And after that he was very eager to pass on his publicist’s info and wanted to do more with us, and as a result we did a full sit down interview with Michael Lohan about a lot of things. I will say that Lindsay Lohan does make an appearance during his interview via his telephone. So that you will see and it’s pretty hilarious.

You also mentioned spending some time with Jayde Nicole, which had actually hit the internet via a series of paparazzi photos of you stumbling beside her. How excited were you to see those photos online?

The best is that those were obviously for the special, but at the time nobody knew. So I got so many messages on Twitter and on Facebook of people being like “You changed! You’re friends with Jayde! You’re a dirty paparazzi whatever.” It was so awful and I just wanted to tell people, no! Now they’ll see that it was all in fun. But you know, Jayde is a Playboy playmate, so I literally thought of the most photogenic person I know here and called her up. And she took me out one night and showed me how to really get noticed by the paparazzi. It was actually really embarrassing, and I still have a scar on my knee from the fall that happened that night.

What’s been your most exciting celeb encounter while in L.A.?

Other than Michael Lohan at the mall, I had dinner at the table next to Robert Pattinson a couple months ago, which I thought was so crazy. But I was out with some new friends, and I legitimately don’t have a lot of friends here. So at the time it was almost like a setup, and I was really trying to be cool for my new prospective friends. And yet I’m sitting next to Robert Pattinson, so inside I’m freaking out and all I want to do is take a really embarrassing photo. But I resisted and I acted really cool about it, and then I let myself freak out when we all left the restaurant. I did go to the bathroom about six times during that dinner just so I could walk passed him and check out what he was eating, and try to hear his conversation.

You spent a few years making fun of reality shows as host of the After Show. What do you think about the trailer for Lake Shore, the Canadian Jersey Shore?

I think it’s about time! The reason I wanted to do these specials is that everywhere you go in L.A. people are in character. You know, like the guy who’s serving you at the deli is a total larger than life character. And so is the woman at the tanning salon, and so is the plastic surgeon. And I thought, well maybe I could exploit this – these types of over the top personalities don’t exist in Canada as they do here. And then I saw the preview for Lake Shore and I was like, “Wait a second, someone actually found these people. They dug under rocks in Canada and found these characters.” And I was so excited to see that. I mean, is it the greatest representation of our fine country? Probably not. But I would watch it.

MTV Canada aired a farewell special for you in October, and now you’re back with these new specials. Can fans expect more MTV specials from you in the future?

I think at MTV and CTV they’re calling this my victory lap. I think this is my final MTV Canada series. Take them all in, because I think this will be it. But who knows. Amanda Bynes came out of retirement after two months, so you never know.

Are you going to continue reporting for Etalk from L.A.?

I hope so! We’re talking about awards season. That’s just so much fun for me, because they’re really good for letting me do what I want. So I get to go to these big events and ask people ridiculous things. And it’s been really fun, so hopefully I’ll be doing some stuff for awards season for Etalk.

Is there anywhere else fans should be looking out for you?

Yes, definitely, and I’ll be really excited to announce that probably in January or February.

Until then, be sure to ch-check out Jessi Cruickshank’s Real Hollywood Survival Guide, airing today through Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. on MTV Canada.

2010 in review: Kellan Lutz

What a year it's been for me and Kellan Lutz!

Just when I thought I couldn't possibly lust any more for the Twilight hunk, there he'd pop up in his underwear once again.

Lutz was featured in a record-breaking six Monday deliciousness posts over the past year, and seven additional posts highlighting his greatest (physical) assets.

As the face, er, body of Calvin Klein X underwear, and one of People's Sexiest Men Alive, surely I wasn't the only one to take note!

Click inside to join me on the remarkable journey of Kellan Lutz's hot bod on outisthrough.com throughout 2010.

Congrats to Kellan Lutz on being my most objectified celebrity of the year!

February 8, 2010
The new campaign for Calvin Klein X underwear is revealed, featuring Kellan looking "all gorgeous and muscley and abtastic." It's the start of a beautiful new relationship between the two of us.

April 12, 2010
Kellan's photographed emerging from the water in St. Maarten. His glistening bod makes me yearn for a Baywatch reboot, like I never thought I would.

April 26, 2010
I was in Europe at this point, but left a behind-the-scenes video of Kellan being all muscley and delicious for Interview Magazine to keep my readers distracted.

June 4, 2010
In Kellan's only misstep of the year, he's photographed in a shirt for the cover of Da Man Magazine. A wet shirt, but a shirt nonetheless.

June 14, 2010
Now we're talking: Kellan showing off his rock hard abs for the cover of Men's Health Magazine.

June 17, 2010
Kellan Lutz is photographed in nothing but a loincloth in Montreal! Jackie, Janice and Jasmin get strict orders to "find him, brush up against his hard body, then guest blog about the experience."

June 19, 2010
I get thisclose to Kellan at a promotional appearance for Calvin Klein X at the Bay in Toronto. "Despite being fully clothed, Lutz did give a peak at his underwear to prove he wears the product he's endorsing."

June 29, 2010
Jessi Cruickshank cuts the crap. "Instead of wasting everyone's time, pretending to care what Kellan has to say, Jessi spent her interview time more wisely, just sitting back and taking in the view."

September 2, 2010
Now Kellan's just teasing us -- walking to his car sans shirt, and photographed by the paparazzi in the process. At least he knows what's he's doing. "It's nice to be one of the guys that can help sell a movie by taking his shirt off," Lutz told Us Weekly.

September 17, 2010
More Calvin Klein X ads! These ones have some sort of "four elements" theme, though that doesn't really matter.

November 23, 2010
Ryan Reynolds is named People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive, but Kellan gives him a run for his money with his sexy, shirtless photo shooot for the issue.

2010 in review: Monday deliciousness

Oh what a delicious year its been!

So many fine men flaunted what they've got that I had to expand my regular Monday deliciousness feature beyond just Monday.

From Mad Men to vampires, wilderness adventurers and Glee coaches, we were treated to more than an eyeful to drool over.

Click on inside for eight of the hottest posts featured on outisthrough.com this year!

Needless to say, you won't regret it.

1. Zac Efron, June 14, 2010
"Zac Efron took a dip in Maui, Hawaii over the weekend and revealed an even buffer bod than we're used to from him. (Not to mention chest hair -- boy really is a man!)"

2. Alexander Skarsgard, May 24, 2010
"I've still never watched an episode of True Blood, so I have no idea what's going on the clip. But I can tell you if you're at all into tall, shirtless Swedish men, this might be the clip to get you started on the show."

3. Matthew Morrison, November 17, 2010
"I so appreciate his physical form more than his toolbag Glee character."

4. Henry Cavill, September 9, 2010
"Henry Cavill looked all kinds of fine as he shot scenes for his new movie in Javea, Spain. Here's hoping the final product focuses a little less on conspiracy uncovering, and a lot on vacation in Spain, because I like what I see so far."

5. Jon Hamm, September 3, 2010
"Oh how nice it is to see Don Draper trade in his suits for something a little more revealing!"

6. Ryan Gosling, April 5, 2010
"Ryan Gosling treated the world to free tickets to the gun show, as he was photographed walking his dog in L.A. on Saturday. I cropped the dog out of the photo so we could focus on the truly fine specimen in the photo."

7. Dave Salmoni, March 15, 2010
"Animal Planet hunk Dave Salmoni is looking smokin' fine in this new photoshoot for Flaunt Magazine. 'The whole time I was doing it, [the photographer] was sitting there . . . trying to get me to pucker my lips,' he says. 'It was really really embarrassing.'"

8. Joel McHale, March 8, 2010
"Joel McHale stripped down to almost nothing on last week's episode of Community, proving to the world he isn't just funny, he's in fine physical shape too."
