CTV's coverage of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics took home six Gemini Awards last night, at a ceremony in Toronto honouring the best in news, sports, documentary and lifestyles television.
The coverage earned an award for best live sporting event. Catriona Le May Doan was named best sports analyst, Chris Cuthbert won best play-by-play for his gold medal hockey game commentary, and James Duthie was named best sportscaster. CTV's online offerings also won an award for outstanding digital media.
I certainly hope someone's sending David Pelletier an honourary Gemini for most hilarious Olympic commentary. Someone has to reward him for being him.
Meanwhile, George Stroumboulopoulos was named best talk show host for the Hour, and Amanda Lang was named best news host for CBC News Network's the Lang & O'Leary Exchange. CBC's Diana Swain took best news anchor.
W Network’s How to Look Good Naked Canada was named best lifestyle series.
The Gemini gala for children’s and youth, drama, and variety and comedy winners will be held tonight, with mainstream categories being presented in a televised gala November 13.
