Barbara Walters needs a lesson in fascinating

It's that time of year again!

Barbara Walters has revealed most of her 10 most fascinating people of the year, to be profiled on her ABC special December 9.

And once again, Walters' picks prove her cracker jack producing team have paid attention to who people are talking about, because I highly doubt Babs finds half of these people actually fascinating.

This year's list is a who's who of pop culture centre pieces, among them Justin Bieber and the cast of Jersey Shore.

What's fascinating here is not the people themselves, but the flurry of fanfare and attention that surrounds them. I'm sure even Bieber would admit he's fascinated that his floppy hair and prepubescent boyish looks have shot him to superstardom.

The Jersey Shore cast, meanwhile, is positively too stupid to understand the word fascinating, so don't even ask them about it.

Sarah Palin's on the list for the second year in a row. Replace the word fascinating with frightening, and sure, she belongs.

Admittedly, I'm still in awe that Sandra Bullock somehow swept award season with her god awful performance in the god awful movie the Blind Side. So, I'll accept her as one Babs' picks. Even more so, she's had some headline-grabbing challenges in her personal life this year, and come out laughing about it. That I can respect.

At 88-years-old, Betty White's had one of the busiest years of her career and hasn't missed a beat. Maybe now that she's being proclaimed fascinating she'll feel okay taking a break.

And, uh, Jennifer Lopez is on the list. She might be fascinating, but she's been out of the spotlight for so long I have no idea what would merit such classification.

NBA star LeBron James makes the cut, and I'm just going to defer to Barbara and assume he's fascinating because I don't know anything more about him. Was he on Dancing with the Stars this year? Did cell phone pics of his penis hit the internet at any point? Let's say the answer to both questions is yes, and move on.

Finally, Babs tapped Kate Middleton for the special -- pre-engagement to Prince William. She's on the cover of British tabloids a lot, right? Must be a big deal.

The final two picks for most fascinating won't be revealed until the special.

Off the top of my head, I'd give one spot to Mark Zuckerberg. Maybe not the real guy, but definitely the guy as portrayed in the major motion picture the Social Network. That guy's a fuckin' dick, and it's fascinating that I'm still willing to share so much of my life on his website.

And just for fun, let's give the last spot to Kellan Lutz, because his portion of the special could consist of a fan-made YouTube video of the actor/model in his Calvin Kleins.

Mila Kunis takes the December 2010 cover of Nylon Magazine.

To be honest, I'm kind of underwhelmed by the cover and accompanying photo shoot. But I generally find Mila quite beautiful, and she's got my attention as her career continues to incline.

Kunis next appears in Black Swan, in theatres this Friday. Directed by Darren Aronofsky, the thriller zeros in on the relationship between a veteran ballet dancer played by Natalie Portman and a rival, played by Kunis.

“It was the most intense training I’ve ever had in my life, and probably will have for anything," Mila tells Nylon about her role. "I lost 20 pounds, so I went down to 95 pounds. I weigh 117 usually, like today. I looked like Gollum."

And, as previously reported, she's also costarring sans clothing with Justin Timberlake in next year's Friends With Benefits.

But don't go thinking she's getting a big head or anything.

“Literally, at this point, my career has been built on low expectations, and when you surpass those low expectations, you’re a winner," she says.

He seems to think so, though I'm not so sure.

The actor has made the above video, to suggest that instead of buying each other blankets with sleeves for Christmas this year, we buy a water bottle to help support Water.org.

If y'all feel the need to do something selfless and charitable with your money, I support you.

But I also want to say I fully support the Snuggie, and wear mine on a regular basis. It is a great gift.

Now if someone would just buy me an adorable cuddly Matt Damon this year to put in my Snuggie, I'd be eternally grateful.

How do we feel about . . .

. . . Anne Hathaway and James Franco hosting the Academy Awards next year?!

I was just catching up on tweets while on the TTC for an hour, and had some time to think about it.

In a lot of ways it makes sense to try to grab younger viewers with these hot young thangs.

Hathaway's been nominated for an Oscar in the past for Brokeback Mountain, and speculation is Franco will be nominated this year for 127 Hours.

And if you're going to take a chance on young talent, this duo is nothing if not charismatic.

It appears Franco can and does do literally anything -- comedy, drama, soap operas, university and novel-writing.

And, well, Hathaway's got a great Katie Holmes impression.

It's not the worst decision, in my opinion. But it is a risky one. The at-home audience may be ready for young blood on the Oscar stage, but will those at the live show be willing to give these new kids a chance?

We'll find out February 27, 2011 when the Oscars are handed out.

Lucy Hale was born on June 14, 1989. She is a very talented actress and hasn't been on many films or television shows. Her biggest hit recently was on Pretty Little Liars. The girls that play the leading roles are very talented and I am left enthralled, and stunned at times, because it is very hard to tell what is going to happen. I recommend everyone checking out the show, to see these pretty little liars for themselves. I am sure we haven't seen the last of Lucy Hale, and she will be on a number of different productions, and she is still very young. Here are some hot photos I found of her on the internet...

Sarah Roemer is an American Actress that was discovered in San Diego California, and moved to New York to pursue her acting career. My favorite movie that she came out in was Disturbia, with Shia LaBeouf. That was a great movie. It even had Trinity from the Matrix. Sarah Roemer moved away from her home at 17 to start acting. She came out in the movie The Grudge 2, which was very scary! In 2007 she did sexy poses for Maxim magazine. She has even modeled for CCS catalogs. She is a great leading role in The Event. E! is returning to Canada!

As of 12 noon, the channel formerly known as Star! will be delivering all your fave E! programming.

Oh my, exclamation marks everywhere.

To get everyone started off on the right foot, the network's airing Chelsea Handler's big interview special at 2 p.m. and 10 p.m., featuring Gwyneth Paltrow, Christina Aguilera and Anne Hathaway.

I mean, we all know Gwyneth is the most boring person in the world, but if anyone can make her seem interesting it's probably Chelsea.

My productivity levels will likely nosedive now that Chelsea, the Soup and E! True Hollywood Story are back in my life.

Oh yeah, the network will also air etalk, Fashion Television and So You Think You Can Dance Canada to represent the CanCon.

CRTC tells MuchMusic to keep playing music videos

Canada's broadcast regulator has denied a request from MuchMusic to reduce the amount of music video programming it airs from 50 per cent to 25.

The CRTC also denied its request to reduce Canadian content, eliminate French-language music videos and add more animated programs and drama.

While it's clear MuchMusic is willing to rebrand itself a lifestyle station, the CRTC says its proposed changes would call into question its licensing framework, which gives Much genre exclusivity as the nation's music station.

The changes were opposed by Rogers as well as the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) and the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN), who argue they would allow MuchMusic to duplicate the programming of MTV Canada.

Brad Schwartz, senior vice-president of Toronto's Much MTV Group, says changes are still necessary as demographics and technology shift.

"What the CRTC does in creating the nature of services and genre protections is to allow businesses to be special. And our problem is, music videos no longer make us special," he tells the Canadian Press. "When you look at a service like Vevo — which is owned by the record labels — we don't even get music video premieres anymore. All music video premieres are on Vevo."

The CRTC has granted Much increased flexibility in airing movies, as well as a wider variety of programming genres, as long as it is music-related.

It is also allowing Much to operate an 18 as opposed to 24-hour day, meaning it can air whatever it likes between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m.
