CBC 2011-2012 schedule highlights

The CBC announced its 2011-2012 schedule during a presentation at its Front St. studios in Toronto yesterday.

As previously announced, Being Erica will be back for a fourth and final season, while Little Mosque On The Prairie is also set for a final go-round.

Other returning series include Republic of Doyle, 22 Minutes, Ricker Mercer Report, The Ron James Show, Heartland, Battle Of The Blades, Dragons' Den and rookie comedy InSecurity.

George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight, meanwhile, is expanding to an hour-long format. (Does this mean we can call it The Hour again?)

Joining the fun, the Ceeb is adding two new comedies and two new dramas to its lineup:

  • Camelot: A Canada-Ireland coproduction from the producers of The Tudors, the one-hour fantasy drama is based on the story of King Arthur.
  • Michael: Tuesdays & Thursdays: a half-hour comedy produced by Bob Martin and Don McKellar, about a therapist and his most challenging patient. Stars Bob Martin and Matt Watts.
  • Arctic Air: a one-hour drama adventure about a group of renegade pilots who fly small bush planes in the Canadian North.
  • Mr. D: a half-hour comedy filmed in Halifax starring Gerry Dee as an under-qualified teacher faking his way through life.

Perhaps most excitingly, the network announced yesterday that former All Saints singer Nicole Appleton will host new reality series Cover Me Canada, details of which were revealed earlier this week,

A movie about John A. Macdonald, a sequel to 2010's biopic about Don Cherry, and a special recounting the best CBC moments will also air during the upcoming season, the broadcaster's 75th anniversary.
