As today marks World AIDS Day, Alicia Keys has rounded up a group of celebs to help raise money for Keep A Child Alive by . . . quitting Twitter.
Celebs including Justin Timberlake, Ryan Seacrest, Usher, Lady Gaga, the Kardashians, Elijah Wood, Jay Sean, Serena Williams and the cast of MTV's the Buried Life are going quiet on their social media accounts, until $1 million is raised for the organization.
Today marks their "digital deaths," according to the campaign.
Keep A Child Alive, cofounded by Keys, provides treatment, nutrition, shelter, support and education to children in Africa and India suffering from or affected by HIV/AIDS.
Again, I totally support the cause and think it's an interesting idea. But let's be honest, getting some of these celebs off Twitter is a service to the general public, not so much a fundraising motivation.
Like, does anyone care that Ryan Seacrest isn't tweeting anymore? Did anyone care when he was digitally alive?
I'd rather donate to get certain celebs off Twitter.
