• Elton John will appear as a guest on Tuesday's episode of the Marilyn Denis Show on CTV. I have some major issues with Marilyn's set, but this is a pretty big guest booking, right? Billy Elliott, featuring music by Elton, is currently showing in Toronto.

• City and Colour and Hannah Georgas will play a free outdoor show, dubbed the Juno Block Party March 24 at Toronto's Metro Square. Part of a week of events leading up to the Juno Awards broadcast, Georgas is nominated for New Artist and Songwriter of the Year.

• Melissa Etheridge, Serena Ryder and Johnny Reid have been announced as performers for the Genie Awards, taking place March 10 in Ottawa. Honouring the best in Canadian film, rock band Karkwa and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet will perform a tribute to Barney's Version, the year's most nominated movie.

• But back to Melissa Etheridge for a minute -- she has no obvious connection to Canada or the film industry, right? She's just there for ratings?
