Jason Priestley, Allan Hawco, underwear. Great moments in Canadian television. |
Tonight at 8 p.m., the Gemini Awards will be handed out on CBC, honouring the best in Canadian television.
After airing on Global for the past few years, I can already pinpoint two positive changes the Ceeb has brought to the annual kudofest:
1. It's airing Wednesday night in primetime, as opposed to Saturday evening when no one is home watching TV.
2. I was invited to hang out in the press room.
Yes friends, follow me on the Twitter tonight, to catch behind-the-scenes action from this award show you didn`t know you cared about.
If we're lucky, scheduled presenters/Canadian studmuffins Jason Priestley and Allan Hawco (above, in what I can only hope reflects their dress code tonight) will be within grabbing distance. (Can you imagine getting a handful of Brandon Walsh?!)
Hosted by Russell Peters, other scheduled presenters include Catherine O'Hara ("Kev-ahn!"), Dr. Seaver, er I mean, Alan Thicke, and a couple Degrassi kids.
Jim Cuddy, City & Colour and Deborah Cox are scheduled to perform.
While seven major categories will be handed out tonight, including Best Drama and Best Comedy series, the majority of the awards were given out in ceremonies last week. The full winner's list is here and here, though I've combed through to bring you the following highlights:
BEST CHILDREN'S OR YOUTH FICTION PROGRAM:
Degrassi

The Pillars of the Earth
