Being Erica, Republic of Doyle among CBC renewals

CBC announced the renewal of 17 series for its 2011-2012 season this morning, including Being Erica, Battle of the Blades, Republic of Doyle Dragons' Den and the long-running Little Mosque.

Rookie spy comedy InSecurity was also picked up for a sophomore season, though fellow newbie Men With Brooms isn't on the list.

The Ceeb is keeping its recognizable personalities right where it likes 'em, with renewals of the Rick Mercer Report, George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight, The Nature of Things, the Ron James Show and Steven and Chris.

Rounding out the list of renewed series are Marketplace, the fifth estate, 22 Minutes, Best Recipes Ever, Doc Zone and Heartland.

Multi-generational comedy 18 to Life, currently airing its second season, has failed to be renewed as of yet.

The CBC has also ordered five new productions for next year. That includes comedy Mr. D starring comedian Gerry D; TV movie Michael Tuesdays and Thursdays starring Martha Burns; Camelot, a Starz co-production starring Joseph Fiennes and Claire Forlani; Dealer to Leader, a business series starring Dragons’ Den’s Kevin O’Leary; and Cover Me Canada, which has no description.
