2011 Grammy Winners

I almost didn't make it through last night's Grammy Awards, but my perseverance was rewarded when Arcade Fire's the Suburbs was awarded Album of the Year to cap off the show.

The Montreal rockers beat out Eminem, Lady Gaga, Lady Antebellum and Katy Perry for the award.

The win was arguably the second biggest shock of the night, after jazz bassist Esperanza Spalding won Best New Artist over Justin Bieber, Drake, Florence + the Machine and Mumford & Sons.

I have to admit, this was one of my favourite moments of the show. I'm still not certain who Esperanza Spalding is, but there was just something beautiful about a virtual unknown claiming a prize over a hype machine like Bieber.

Other highlights included Eminem's win for Best Rap Album and Lady Gaga taking Best Pop Vocal Album.

Lady Antebellum, meanwhile, took Best Song and Record of the Year for Need You Now. The country group walked away Grammy's big winners, winning five of the six trophies for which they were nominated.
