TIFF 2011: U2, Clooney, Gosling and more


Looks like we've got quite the celebrity-filled September in store in Toronto, as films featuring U2, George Clooney, Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt, Tilda Swinton and Michelle Williams are among the 40 special presentations announced by the Toronto International Film Festival yesterday.

Opening the festival is From The Sky, a documentary about rock band U2, directed by Davis Guggenheim.

THE IDES OF MARCH, directed by George Clooney, and starring Ryan Gosling as a presidential candidate's press secretary involved in a political scandal.

TAKE THIS WALTZ, directed by Sarah Polley, a romance starring Michelle Williams and Seth Rogen.

W.E., a romantic period drama directed by Madonna.

MONEY BALL, directed by Bennett Miller, stars Brad Pitt in the true story of American baseball team the Oakland A's.

DRIVE, stars Ryan Gosling as a stunt driver by day, getaway driver by night. Carey Mulligan also stars.

FRIENDS WITH KIDS, an ensemble comedy featuring Adam Scott, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Jon Hamm, Megan Fox and more.

HICK, a coming-of-age road trip movie starring Blake Lively and Chloe Moretz.

JEFF, WHO LIVES AT HOME, a comedy starring Jason Segal and Ed Helms.

KILLER JOE stars Emile Hirsch as a drug dealer who turns to 'Killer Joe,' played by Matthew McConaughey, to help him cash in his mom's life insurance policy.

THE ORANGES, an ensemble family-centric comedy featuring Leighton Meester, Adam Brody, Allison Janney, Hugh Laurie and Mary Steenburgen.

MELANCHOLIA, directed by Lars von Trier, is a "beautiful movie about the end of the world," starring Alexander Skarsgaard, Kiefer Sutherland, and Kirsten Dunst.

SHAME, directed by Steve McQueen, stars Michael Fassbender as a man confronting his sexual compulsions and the self-destructive acts of his sister, played by Carey Mulligan.

360, a dramatic thriller starring Jude Law and Rachel Weisz.

TEN YEAR, about a high school reunion, stars Channing Tatum, Rosario Dawson, Justin Long and Chris Pratt.

WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN, directed by Linda Ramsay, stars Tilda Swinton as a mother dealing with her adult son, who she's always known is different, angry and perhaps evil.
